TWICE brings the heat to Boston

TWICE brought an infectious energy to the City of Champions on their This Is For World Tour, playing their first-ever show in Boston and filling TD Garden from the balconies to the pit. Synchronized light sticks scattered throughout the audience turned the crowd into a sky full of stars. The show kicked off with “THIS IS FOR,” “Strategy,” and “MAKE ME GO,” setting the stage for a night of high energy and pure joy. Even with Dahyun and Chaeyoung absent due to an ankle fracture and health issues, respectively, the remaining seven members—along with a small army of backup dancers—turned the arena into a massive dance floor, especially during fan favorites like “TAKEDOWN,” “What Is Love?,” and “Dance the Night Away.” At times, the sheer volume of the arena mix led to some ringing and a loss of clarity in the higher frequencies, though this did little to dampen the energy, especially with ear protection taking the edge off.
Partway through the night, each member had a chance to shine during solo performances, delivering shortened versions of their songs from the album TEN: The Story Goes On. The stage took on new colors and shapes for each performance, adding depth and individuality to an already dynamic show. While TWICE is incredibly strong as a group, their solos revealed more of each artist’s individual identity. I found myself fully immersed in the moment—screaming whatever lines I picked up on the spot, without even knowing whether they were in English or Korean, let alone what the words meant. The spirit of TWICE seemed to transcend language itself, leaving everyone with enough energy to dance the night away.
